About Dr. Luce

Dr. Luce is a certified orthodontic specialist. She is a dentist who has gone on (after graduating dental school) to complete an additional two to three years of orthodontic training in an accredited residency program supervised by orthodontists. While there, she learned about tooth movement (orthodontics) and guidance of facial development (dentofacial orthopedics), gaining the expertise needed to straighten teeth and align jaws. Dr. Luce has practiced orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics exclusively since 1997. She received her Bachelors degree in Biology from Loyola University of Chicago in 1988. She then attended the Loyola University School of Dentistry, where she graduated with honors in 1992. Her academic honors included induction into Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society.

From 1992 to 2003 Dr. Luce served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force Dental Corps at various bases throughout the United States and Japan. During this period she completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency (AEGD 1993) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Fairborn Ohio where she rotated through all recognized dental specialties. Dr. Luce was then accepted into the Tri-Service Orthodontic Residency Program at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, where she received her certificate in Orthodontics (1999). After completing her training, Dr. Luce returned to Wright-Patterson Air Force base to practice orthodontics and teach in the AEGD program. During her tour, Dr. Luce chaired the Hospital's Craniofacial Anomaly board where she had the distinction of coordinating complex dental and medical treatment plans between various medical and dental specialties for severely afflicted patients. A strong believer in giving back to the community, Dr. Luce is an active participant int the Donated Dental Services Program, a national program for disabled children and adults who need but cannot afford dental services. Dr. Luce separated from the Air Force honorably in 2003 when she purchased her McHenry practice.

Unlike most orthodontists that graduate from their specialty training without even so much as a day of general practice, Dr. Luce practiced for over 5 years as a general dentist before returning to school for her orthodontic specialty training. This allows her greater experience and ability to plan complex orthodontic treatment plans involving treatment from other specialists as well as your general dentist.
